Thank you for stopping by. This posting is the inaugural entry in my Poker Endeavors blog.

The purpose of this blog is to build a network of recreational poker players. If you are interested in poker, you are invited to participate. The aim is to generate and facilitate information sharing to improve your poker experience. It is particularly targeted toward those who enjoy dealer’s choice poker games and the wide variety of poker play those types of games foster.

Much of today’s poker hype revolves around the recent Texas Hold’em craze. And an offshoot of that is that it has re-energized many former poker players to once again pick up the pastime of dealer’s choice poker. Too, the new young poker playing set that is cutting its teeth on Texas Hold’em is quickly realizing there is an entire world of poker games in addition to the tournament circuit game of Hold’em. Finally, there are many players like myself who have always played recreational poker and continue to do so.

Recreational Poker – What is that, exactly? In my book The Everyday Guide to Recreational Poker (you can find it at www.pokerendeavors.com) – I define recreational poker as dealer’s choice games where the aim is to have a “fun, fair, and friendly game”. To that end, the book gives poker players plenty of information explore and a long list of games to play. Odds, skill, aspects of betting, betting schemas and flow, house rules, game types, game variations, likely winning hands, high-low split pot games and strategies, the effect of wild cards, playing strategies, player types, influencing your opponents, and eliminating slow play are just some of the topics addressed in detail. And, there are plenty of games to play – explained in detail.

Rather than say much more at this point, I am opening up the blog for your input, comments, and general questions about dealer’s choice poker. Do you need ideas for different games to deal? Questions about odds and skillful play? Problems with keeping the games fun, fair and friendly? Do you have a game to share with the rest of us? Do you need help improving your play or trying to figure out a particular type of player that you often face? Other thoughts and comments?

Thank you in advance for your posting(s).
